Welcome To My Gear Locker!
On this page you’ll find details about the gear I use, where to get it, and why I use it. I get my hands on a lot of different gear to review and I am very fussy, so you can rest-assured that this is only the very best camera tech out there.
Nikon Z 6
This is my primary stills camera but I also use it for time-lapse. The camera brand we choose usually comes from our first investment - we invest in an ecosystem of camera, lens and accessories that function together. My primary system is Nikon, but I actually use other brands for other functions.
Insta360 X3
I use my Insta360 X3, Insta360 ONE RS 1-inch and Go 2 all the time. I love 360 cameras and the tech packed into the Insta360 range is phenomenal! The whole range is so user friendly and versatile, and the Insta360 Studio app is full of awesome features. I’ve upgraded from the ONE X2 to the X3, but the ONE X2 is still a great camera. With these cameras we can essentially ‘fire and forget’, coming back to reframe afterwards.

Vallerret Markhof Pro V3
I have no other recommendation for photography gloves than Vallerret. I primarily use the Markhof Pro V3 but I also use the Tinden model when it’s slightly colder. These gloves are phenomenal! They do their job perfectly, keeping our hands warm and preserving our dexterity whilst affording access to our digits with finger- and thumb-tips that fold back, giving us proper use of touch screens and fine control of our camera without having to remove a whole glove. Perfect!

Xencelabs
My go-to is the Xencelabs Medium Tablet with Quick Keys and let me tell you, this is the tablet that ends the game! I’ve owned a lot of graphics tablets but nothing comes close. My second-place tablet is the Xencelabs Small Graphics Tablet and I use this for travelling with space restrictions. The wizardry packed into these tablets is amazing, from the responsiveness of the pen to the stability of the connection. This really is a case of never going back to the competition again!

Platypod eXtreme
Platypod is the worlds most compact tripod base and their newest team member, the eXtreme, takes everything that’s great about the Ultra and the Max and combines it, improving the entire system by integrating the spikes and giving us multiple attachment points. I also use the Platyball Elite and Ergo (pictured) with it to give me excellent panning and ergonomic control.

DJI Mavic 3 Cine
My primary drone is the DJI Mavic 3 Cine. This drone is incredible. The flight performance is matched in power by the imaging capability. I use it all the time for video in my YouTube series, Due North, and I love to use it for aerial imagery including 360º shots that feel immersive. My backup drone is the DJI Air 2, another high performer in a smaller package.

Sony a6400
The Sony a6400 is my primary vlogging camera. It performs exceptionally with the incredible Sony sensor inside it and integrates with multiple other pieces of gear including my Røde Videomic Pro and Spiffy Gear KYU-6 lights. My main lens is the Sony 10-18mm f/4.
Canon G7X
My secondary vlogging camera is the Canon G7X. It packs a lot of power into a small package and although it doesn’t have the input ports I need, the sensor is awesome and the video quality kicks-ass! I’ve even filmed the northern lights with it!
3 Legged Thing Tommy
I’ve had the Nicky and Tommy video tripods and settled in the end for Tommy. I use it in conjunction with the AirHed Cine to film long range shots with my Canon camcorder. 3 Legged Thing make incredible tripods and the company is formed on the basis of solving common tripod problems. I love their range!

3 Legged Thing Bucky
And Corey and Jay and L-bracket and footwear, but mostly Bucky! Bucky is in this photo, wearing his Clawz to grip the ice and an L-bracket (Zelda) on the camera. The carbon-fibre pro range is excellent and there’s a tripod for everyone in the 3 Legged Thing range. Having used a whole pile of different tripods I’m firmly attached to Bucky!
Whenever the need arises for a monopod, I pull out the Trent ;)
WANDRD
I use the HEXAD ACCESS, PRVKE (pictured), FERNWEH, VEER, and the ROAM. Let me tell you without a doubt, WANDRD produces the absolute best luggage for travellers and photographers. Their bags are designed modularly to serve purpose, provide function, to be 100% useful! They have succeeded in ticking all the boxes and although it’s weird to say this about luggage - I love them! Camera bags are one of the trickiest things in our gear haul because we tend to have loads of them. They tend to not perform diversely so we need one for each job. WANDRD have solved this for me and their camera cubes make everything so much simpler.
DJI Mic
In terms of wireless lav mic’s my favourite is the DJI Mic. The sound quality is awesome and there’s a 3.5mm jack to plug in a wired lav but the thing that makes DJI stand out above the rest is the fact they’ve perfected transmission technology. Think about it - they make a whole load of stuff that requires perfect data transmission, so transmitting sound is a walk in the park for them.
