My itchy feet
I just can’t stay still in one place! I guess that’s got a lot to do with this whole adventure I’m on. So far it’s playing out very nicely, even considering the typical Scottish autumn weather I’m experiencing. However, bad weather can make for some amazing photos!
I’ve headed very far north in the UK so far, having stopped in Nottingham to see Ben and Brigitte, then just outside of Glasgow to see John, a fellow DIYPhotography writer. I was keen to get up into the highlands as soon as I could to get my camera back to good use, and I’m so glad I did!
I shot this today at Glencoe, and it was right by the road! These beautiful falls show just how much water is flowing from the mountains - there isn’t a whole lot above this location so the volume cascading down really does exemplify just how much water comes from a relatively small basin.
This location is very easily accessible, with a couple of pull-outs to park in and a 50m walk to the bridge. I shot this with my Nikon D810 and I used my 3 Legged Thing Bucky for stability as I was also using a Lee Filters 10-stop (ND1000) filter fixed to the front of my Nikkor 14-24mm lens.
This was a quick stop on my way through to Glenfinnan, where I’m parked up for the night ready to go shoot the viaduct made famous in Harry Potter tomorrow morning. Last night however, I was in Glen Etive, also made famous by a movie. This time it was Skyfall, and this is the road of the infamous chase scene.
I’ll be showing more of this location in episode two of Due North, so be sure to catch that on Sunday.
For now, I have a whole load of work to do! I’m currently working on the lead article for the December N Photo magazine, which is all about cold weather photography. So, until next time…
Much love
Dave
